The best way to learn snorkeling is to take an in-water class at your local dive center, or at the resort at your destination.  No pool nearby?  No fear!  Our tips pages include full-motion video and helpful photos to make sure you get the right start.

You'll find tips on getting started (fitting your gear properly), surface snorkeling techniques, diving under the surface while holding your breath, and most important, safety tips to make sure you make it back to shore comfortably!

Stay Safe in the Water!

Snorkeling can be easy, relaxing, and enjoyable.  To reduce the likelihood of encountering problems, remember these safety keys:

  • Always snorkel with a buddy, and let someone on land know where you're going.
  • Wear flotation if you're in waves, or if you're not a strong swimmer.
  • Clear your ears EARLY and OFTEN when you descend.  If you feel any pain or discomfort, immediately ascend.
  • Be aware of your environment.  Pay attention to currents and to marine life such as jellyfish to avoid injury.
