Preparing to go Snorkeling:  A few things will help you enjoy your new equipment.
  • Clean your mask:  Unless the manufacturer's directions specifically say don't, you must clean the inside of your mask lenses with a mild abrasive (ordinary non-gel toothpaste or Sea Buff works best) before use, or manufacturing residue will cause it to fog up as soon as you put it on.  Put a little of your cleaner on the inside of each lens, and rub it in well for a minute or so with your fingertips.  Rinse the mask well in fresh water.  You should only have to do this once, but if your mask is a persistent "fogger," repeat once.
  • Install your strap cover:  A neoprene strap wrapper is a great way to prevent the silicone mask strap from pulling or tangling in your hair.
  • Install your snorkel: The snorkel attaches to the left side of the mask, with the snorkel "keeper" hooked over the mask strap, and the snorkel on the outside of the strap.
  • Defog your mask:  Now your mask is clean, you'll still need to apply defogging solution to minimize fogging during your snorkeling excursion.  Just put a small dab or a drop or two on the inside of each lens, spread around with your fingers, and rinse of the excess right before you get in the water.  Each application should last an hour or two of snorkeling.
